Comparison

How we compared them

We looked at the things that change what an operator can sell and what an event costs to run: which devices the app runs on, how AI is priced, what happens when the venue internet drops, which cameras it supports, whether the vendor sells hardware, and how you can try it.

Every competitor detail comes from that vendor's own pricing page, product pages, help centre or app listing, checked on 29 September 2026. We did not test competitors' AI output quality side by side, so we don't rank image quality here; use each free trial to judge that on your own setup.

Comparison

DG Photobooth

DG Photobooth is built around AI. It runs on Windows, iPad, Web and Android under one account, offers AI on every plan at $0.45 per image (software from $1 per day or $30 a month), and offers face swap, virtual try-on, prompt styles and 4K output. Results reach guests in under 15 seconds by QR code, SMS, email or WhatsApp.

Its main difference is offline behaviour: when the venue internet drops, capture, frames and printing continue, and AI jobs are queued and delivered when the connection returns. It is also the only one of the four that sells turnkey kiosks, from $2,850 to $4,400 including a year of software.

  • Good fit: AI-first events, operators with mixed devices, venues with unreliable Wi-Fi, agencies that need white label.
  • Less ideal: if you only want a one-time licence with no ongoing plan.

Comparison

Snappic

Snappic is an iPad-first app that also runs on iPhone and on Macs with Apple silicon. Plans run from Starter at $69 a month to Scale at $399 a month, and a per-event option is advertised from $29. AI-FX is included on Business ($189 a month) and above, using a credit pool, with 80+ preset AI filters, custom prompts, face swap and PersonaFX.

Capture and printing work offline, with shares and uploads queued in the background. On the iPad it controls 50+ Canon, Nikon and Sony models (Sony photo only), and there is a 14-day trial with no credit card.

  • Good fit: fleets that are entirely iPad-based.
  • Less ideal: if you run Windows PCs or Android tablets, or want AI on a lower plan.

Comparison

LumaBooth (formerly dslrBooth)

dslrBooth is now sold as LumaBooth, with separate apps for Windows; iPad, iPhone and Mac; and Android. Windows costs $49.99 a month or $17 a month billed annually, and Apple and Android $19.99 a month. AI is pay per use at $0.10 per AI portrait, with 170+ AI presets and custom prompts with reference images.

The booth keeps running without internet, but with no AI transformations; shares queue until the connection returns. On Windows it supports Canon, Nikon, Sony, GoPro and webcams. The free version is watermarked and not for use at events.

  • Good fit: Windows DSLR booths where AI is an occasional extra.
  • Less ideal: if AI is the main attraction at venues with unreliable internet.

Comparison

Sparkbooth

Sparkbooth is a one-time licence for Windows 10+ and macOS 13.7+: $149 for Premium or $189 for the DSLR edition. AI runs through a separate AI account at $20 a month for 100 credits, $50 a month for 300, or packs from $5 for 10, with 14 AI styles such as superhero, anime, Renaissance and headshot.

You can shoot and print offline, with uploads queued, but AI transformations need internet. It supports webcams up to 4K, and Canon, Nikon and Sony (Sony in beta) on the DSLR edition. The trial runs for 30 days with watermarked photos.

  • Good fit: a laptop booth where you want to pay once and use AI now and then.
  • Less ideal: if you need iPad or Android, or AI that works through Wi-Fi drops.

Comparison

Simple Booth

Simple Booth's HALO app runs on iPad only. Plans run from Core at $49 a month (or $24 a week) through Plus at $99, Pro at $149 and Select at $249. AI images cost $0.10 per credit, and each image uses one, two or three credits depending on the AI model you pick. It supports Canon and Sony cameras, and the trial runs for 7 days with 25 credits.

  • Good fit: iPad booths where you want to choose between faster and higher-quality AI models.
  • Less ideal: if you run Windows DSLR booths or Android tablets.

Comparison

Activation King (AI Photo Booth Pro)

Activation King's software runs on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, with two devices per subscription. Monthly plans are Starter at $49, Pro AI at $79 and Ultimate AI at $149, and white label is on Ultimate AI only. AI credits are bought separately: a face swap uses one credit per face and other AI effects use 6 to 42 credits. The software page does not show the price per credit.

It says classic capture and printing can work offline, while AI generation, sharing and cloud sync need internet. It also sells a 32-inch touch kiosk, the AK Photo Booth Pro, for $8,500.

  • Good fit: operators who want many event modes, such as AI drawing and photo mosaics, from one app.
  • Less ideal: if you need AI to keep working when the venue internet drops, or want a kiosk under $5,000.

Comparison

The real price per AI photo

Credit prices are hard to compare, because each app spends a different number of credits per image. This table converts each vendor's published price into the cost of one finished AI photo.

One credit per image is assumed where the vendor says so. AI image cost is only part of an event's cost: add the software plan, and compare the whole event using the cost guide.

Comparison

Best AI photo booth software for iPad

If every booth you own is an iPad, Snappic, Simple Booth, LumaBooth and DG Photobooth all run on it. Snappic and Simple Booth are iPad specialists with long feature lists. DG Photobooth is the one to pick if you may later add a Windows DSLR booth or an Android tablet and want the same styles and settings on every device.

Comparison

Best AI photo booth software for Windows and DSLR cameras

Windows booths with a tethered DSLR give the AI the most detail to work with. LumaBooth and Sparkbooth are long-standing Windows DSLR apps, Activation King runs on Windows, and DG Photobooth tethers Canon, Nikon and Sony bodies over USB. If AI is the main attraction, compare what happens when the internet drops: DG Photobooth queues the AI jobs, while LumaBooth, Sparkbooth and Activation King say AI needs a connection.

Comparison

Best AI photo booth software for Android

Android tablets are the cheapest way to add another booth. LumaBooth, Activation King and DG Photobooth have Android apps. DG Photobooth uses the same account, styles and frames on Android as on Windows and iPad, so a tablet booth can run the same event as a full kiosk.

How to choose

  • Platform: what do you already own? iPad-only apps rule out Windows DSLR rigs, and vice versa.
  • AI pricing model: per portrait, per plan tier or a separate AI account. Work out one typical event under each.
  • Internet: if venues are unreliable, check whether AI stops or queues when the connection drops.
  • Cameras: check your exact camera body is supported on your platform.
  • Hardware: decide whether you want to source the booth yourself or buy it complete.
  • Trial: run each shortlisted app at a real event or a rehearsal before you commit.
